These parents executed a federal crime with their children in tow; what do you think is going to happen? In any other situation, if a parent involved their children in a federal offense, their child would be taken by the state. Why should this be any different? If these people had followed the legal immigration channels they wouldn't have found themselves in this situation. I feel sorry for the children, but this was avoidable and the blame lies solely with the parents. It's common sense that you don't break a foreign countries laws, especially when involving your kids.

Trump was elected on strong border promises; now he's keeping his word. And guess what? He's likely getting a second term. Two scoops, two terms.

"but this was avoidable and the blame lies solely with the parents."

This was a policy change by the Trump administration that looks like, according to Trump and people around him, a calculated move to get dems to vote to pay for a wall Trump claimed Mexico would pay for. This is a hostage situation. It's disgusting.

Definition of asylum. 1 : an inviolable place of refuge and protection giving shelter to criminals and debtors : sanctuary. 2 : a place of retreat and security : shelter. 3 a : the protection or security afforded by an asylum : refuge.

Can't fix the world but we can do better. Trump's wife is an illegal immigrant.

@Moldy, Trump is a proven liar on Twitter. His tweets are worthless for anything other than ridicule.

Covfefe.

Policy is always nuanced by each Administration in one way or another, nothing is set in stone although some politicians like to talk and think like things are.

That excuse doesn't make it any less morally bankrupt. The US government is actively choosing to separate children from their parents. It's actively choosing to imprison these minors in old Walmarts.

Most of these people are asylum seekers. Trump's BS of "we gotta keep the drug cartels out!" is just that: BS. Cartel members have plenty of cash to find their way in through all sorts of different channels. These are asylum seekers. Jeff Sessions has, last week, just randomly stricken several asylum reasons from the law. "Fearing for one's life due to domestic violence" is no longer a valid reason for asylum, for example.

Mom runs away with child, from her murderous cartel member husband, ends up in jail and her 2 year old ends up in a cage in an old WalMart. Like an animal. That's gonna be one fucked up human being, later in life.

This is avoidable. By simply not separating children from their parents. Blaming the parents, as if they were warned, is not a defense for the US government choosing to break up families.
If, for example, they started shooting everyone who crosses the border, "they were warned" is really not a defense for genocide.

I understand the sentiment given the fact children are being separated from their parents, and in the case of differing genders, their siblings as well. I also agree that this specific type of enforcement is intended to put pressure on the dems. But I strongly feel the responsibility of being detained lies with the parents. Children shouldn't be smuggled across borders, and allowing it to happen is irresponsible. Even if the illegal aliens were able to successfully cross the border, what kind of security are the parents able to offer their children in the USA? They'll have hardly any stability, will be relying on others to house and feed them, will be unable to work legally, and their children will have to face an uncertain future regarding their legal status.

There's also the millions of other people who took the time to legally immigrate. They take a lot of pride in making it through the process legitimately. Allowing illegals to flood the border without recourse is an insult to all the legal immigrants and the host countries rule of law. It's always tragic when children get caught up in the kind of situation that will likely scar them for life, but it was the parents decision to put their kids in that position - nobody else is to blame for them being caught crossing the US border illegally.

The Democrats are preventing any change the Republicans want to make to existing immigration and border law. The President is well within his mandate to enforce the existing law.

This assumes knowledge you can not have of the back story of every separated family and expects people, while in transit, to hear and understand the ramifications of Session's announcement of Trump's hostage taking policy.
