Testing batteries
Can I use this to test the voltage of a battery? Or do I need a multimeter to do that?

Depends how important accuracy is. This is supposed to have 1%. Which is kinda odd as it is usually defined in decimals. Eg 0.5 (as any measurement can be off with +-0.5v) or 0.001 (+- 0.001v).
1% of 30v is 0.3v and 1% of 1v is 0.01v.

Guy's right. Accuracy? No, but as simple and quick "GO or NO"-type tool, it should be fine. I've hand-made quite a few of the exact same set=up, for years, for family/friends or co-workers.

Applying magnets to the leads is great for "no-handed" applications, FYI! Go nuts, lol.

Back in the day i used these for testing the output of mechanical mods. Stuck the meter in an old carto-tank and soldered the leads to the threads of a cut-down cartomiser. Instant screw-on volt meter... I considered myself Billy Big Balls for my Macgyver skills at the time.
More sense than money.....

Gotta add 10Ω resistor to have accurate voltage reading instead of open circuit. Reverse engineered that from Hioki's HiTester.
