Received - The insides (avert your vison if you were expected a mech!)

Well, the screws came out easily enough, despite being pretty chewed up from when they were fitted, and what's this? Ah yes, a deluxe piece of folded cardboard holding the board in place. Decently thick wiring where it matters though at both ends, which is nice.

A fair bit of electronics in this 'mech' it seems ;)

Pretty grim soldering on the output connection. Picture also shows the luxury PCB mounting device ;)

If anyone want to know more about what's on the PCB just ask. Pretty hard to get decent photos.

Anyway, sometime I'll see if I can get it to fire a bit better than it does currently (that bad solder joint won't be helping), but I don't hold out much hope. Actually, it'll go straight in the trash, I've had my $11 worth of entertainment out of it. Didn't expect much, wasn't disappointed :)

Is that cardboard? That's what happens when they don't expect you to open it up.

I wouldn't expect anything that has a USB port to be mechanical.

You say Potato I say Potato

Mechanical and Un-regulated appear to be the same around here.
Using "regulation" as poorly disguised prohibition is criminal. Vaping is not smoking, reduces harm and saves lives.

Yup, genuine chunk cut out of a cardboard box!

The only reason I refer to it as a mech is because when these were first listed as a kit the item description said it was a mech - I don't think anyone expected anything remotely mechanical to be inside :)

You probably can't read the writing on the board from the photos, but the board is marked EC0050 75W (which I can't find anything on), there are four 8205S MOSFETs, and three FDMC 6683 'chips' which I know nothing about. There's also a chip halfway down the board that I can't quite get to (yet!) that I assume is the battery management and USB charging controller.

Having had a good look under magnification, every joint that involves the battery or the output (three thick) wires has a dry joint. Otherwise the flow-soldering looks good, and there's plenty of thick tracks on the PCB where the big amps go about their business.

Maybe I will fully strip it and remake all the joints ...

Oh yes. The problem is that there's no threading at the top, so you have to push the atty in against the centre pin and try and catch a thread as it only starts where the top of the pin is! I don't know if it's meant to be as bad as that, but it certainly *is* as bad as that :)
