Thanks to all for the good feedback and great ideas. I’m not the smacking type and my claws are for ukulele strings only.
I already did a bit of flexing of the upper contact but it’s still tight, probably room for improvement on that front, I’ll look into it.
I’ll try invisible tape and see how that works.

Soft cloth on top and a pair of slip-joint pliers (or Channellocks) will get you where you want to go flex-wise. It's a pretty sturdy spring, though, so don't expect too much permanent deformation - you'd probably get to failure before you get to "soft".

My Joyetech's ribbon lasts for more than 3 years, heh. I hoped it will tear apart with use since it causes more inconvenience than benefit, but no, still as rugged as new.
