Can someone help me: Missing o-ring groove?
Received mine a couple of days ago, but I noticed that there is no o-ring at the bottom of the deck like in the product pictures here on FT. When I install different o-rings which seem to be the right size, the JFC bell won't fit.

It seems like there should be a groove around the bottom of the deck, and on mine it appears to be too shallow. Could someone be so kind and see if the groove on yours is deeper than on mine?

Hi mrjohs. I just checked my Ulton version and the groove is as shallow as yours. The o-ring that fits in that groove is 19mm x 1mm x 17mm and there should be a spare one included in the spares bag. If not SKU 2167603 will fit.

Thanks! Exactly the info I was looking for!

It is a little weird, though, because if I put pretty much any o-ring on there, 1mm thick, the bell won't fit. I have forced on a small 8mm OD o-ring. Then I can get the bell to fit, but sometimes it gets completely stuck and I can't turn the JFC.

Second thought: Are we talking about the same o-ring?

The one I am thinking about is this:

The deck is about 14.5mm in diameter, so a 17mm ID o-ring wouldn't fit:

I don't know if it's any help, but the shallow groove you're referring to is designed that way, and is more of an o-ring guide than a deep groove we're used to. I don't yet have an original to compare, but all the copies appear the same, so it's not a manufacturing fault.

[EDIT] I've checked the spares bag on the Coppervape, and there's one spare o-ring of the size you're missing. Counting from the smallest in the bag, it's the fourth o-ring up in size.

It's twelve inches long, but don't use it as a rule...

Sorry, I quoted the wrong size and SKU. The one you need is SKU 2066604

Ok, so I have tried with a few different o-rings. If I do the one from the spares bag which is about 14mm OD, there is no way I can force the bell down over it:

The only o-ring (of the ones I have) which works is if I stretch the tiny translucent one (in the picture). Then the bell will fit over it, but sometimes the JFC gets stuck.

Is there not something funny going on here?

Maybe the inner diameter of the bell is slightly too small. Have you tried sanding it down a tiny bit?

Have you lubed up the dry o-ring before trying to fit the bell and the rest of the rta over it?

Thanks again, djvillain.

No, have not tried sanding it. It seems more than a little bit would be needed, so I don't think that would be feasible. And yes, have tried lubing.

You might have to end up getting 13, 12, 11 or even 10mm o-rings with 1mm thickness, stretching them on so the thickness becomes less than 1mm and then seeing which one fits best while allowing the bell to fit and not cause the jfc to get stuck.

I've had no issues with my Ulton version and I've just ordered another Ulton one plus an unknown manufacturer black one today.
