No - it needs higher voltage to operate. AA batteries are only 1.5V - and 18500 is around 3.6V.

Interesting! Checked and I've got 2 of these (SKU 9692085). The specs say 14500/AA and I've been using AAs and been quite pleased with them so far. Probably get 1 or 2 more as they're about the same price!

Just thinking that the one I asked about comes with batteries so the shipping charge would double(or more) the cost.

This one is wider (45mm instead of 25mm) so it probably can use 3 x AA batteries in an adapter. If I was to buy this I'd buy it as is and buy the batteries at home. Battery shipping can be expensive and slow.

AAs happen to be 14500 in form factor, but these torches specify 3.7-4.2V, so you need lithium cells. (Even LiFePO cells would be undervolt.) The other SKU you pointed to specs 1.5V.

Well spotted. I was interpreting the quoted width of the reflector as the same as the battery tube and assumed it would house 3 x AA batteries instead but obviously as the barrel is narrower this won't be the case. Yes - the second one will just take 1 AA battery.

Get an 18650 flashlight if you don't have one....spending money on AA/AAA throw aways for subpar performance is always a poor choice.

For 5.00 on this site you can get a 18650 torch that lasts forever, and is 5 times brighter than any small form cell can muster.

Plus, you already have old retired 18650s that will be perfect for this application. Low amps okay!
